Default charity quilts for 5 to 12 year olds what size?

I've been asked to make a quilt for older children for charity. What size would you make them? They are not to be made for any beds, just a comfort quilt to give them to keep.

I make charity quilts for 12-18 years old and they request 50" x 60". I figure kids can grow into them.

I make nice sized lap quilts. 42 X 50 to 50 X 60. Since I usually use stash, it all depends on the pattern and how much fabric I have on hand.

My guild did children quilts last year and they said any size from 40"x50" to twin size was needed.

40X50 is a good size. You can use a length of fabric without piecing for the back.

If you are quilting for boys, denim would be my choice, and I would tie them. You can go to a thrift store, and pick up old jeans for cheap. I also use the back pockets on them.

Thank you everyone who have responded! I feel that with your suggestions I can proceed with making the right size of quilt for these children who are in need!

I have two grandkids ages 11 and 12 who are average height and they like them a little longer. I would go with at least 66".

Remember some kids are tall, most of my grandchildren passed me when they were about 12-13. Without going crazy, a little longer and a little wider, 50 X 60 minimum.

I agree that 40x50 or 50x60 max. whatever your pattern supports. And this is a super way to use up your scraps and help others.
