Fons & Porter episode
#21
I think Fons and Porter should stick to hosting the show themselves, or turn it over to someone who actually knows about quilting, not someone who comes off as a "know it all". Mary Fons does nothing but irritate me. Any time there is a guess, she's the one who ends up doing all of the talking, while the guest is probably wondering why they bothered showing up at all. I've seen her do that with Patrick Lose, Sue Hauserman but I think the worst was when Jenny Doan was a guest. That talented and creative woman couldn't get a word in to save her soul, but instead had to stand there smiling, while Miss Know-it-all did all of the talking. All of these folks have a vast knowledge of quilting but weren't allowed to pass any of it on because Mary monopolized the whole program. The show definitely needs an over hall.... the sooner the better.

They probably can't to that for some legal reason. Also on the old episodes Liz and Maryann gave dimensions of what they were cutting. The " new" version has referred one to their website, which advises you to buy the mag that episode is based on, and they have even flipped the cutting mat over...no marks to eyeball.

I think Mary's talkativeness is indeed nervousness, but I think she is valuable as a counterpoint to her mom's style --which sometimes comes across as too rigid or uptight . Maryann can be "all business" while Mary is more relaxed which can lean toward quirky. But hey, I have learned from both of them. I enjoy Maryann's straightforward teaching style but appreciate some humor injected. Liz definitely offered both and I miss her.

I'm in the minority but I like Mary. I find Mariann to be a bit too stiff at times. I'm a rather novice quilter and started out watching episodes online of Quilty. I like that Mary brings in some new ideas also. Drives me batty to watch them do HST the old way. Jenny Doan has a much easier way to do them. Truthfully, I'm a much bigger fan of Jenny than Fons & Porter but I do still watch F&P when I get the chance

Apologize for what? Not necessary........and I think in a long run we are all hoping that if the show continues, Mary will find her strengths and improve her weaknesses. I will continue to watch it, and hope someone else has the creativity to present another quilting show too! Thinking out loud here...should be like hsc ( home shopping club) or whatever that is now....have a presentation, if there's a gadget involved, offer it for sale, Each week different presenter, on and on........oh, I guess that's you tube.........
