I like the black but it is your quilt. Go with what you like! Did you try purple?

Grey will be better. It will allow your stars to pop, rather than the borders standing out.

I like the yellow, but, like you, I am not good at color coordinating either.

If it were mine, I would use the background fabric. I think any color sashing distracts from the pretty blocks.

Now that I see it in purple, I like that.

    Dear piker6ca,
WOW! lots of suggestions and you did your homework with previewing the diff. colored sashing strips.

Since there is yellow in each block, the gray background with the latest purple sashings, does appear to be a light purple (purple and yellow are complementary). I loved the black at first but thought maybe a dark purple so it didn't look too severe. But the purple you have now is great!
The idea of "floating stars" (matching gray strips) is also a good idea... preview that first...
Good luck and please post the finished product!

I am also really interested in how the back of the quilt will be done. I have lots of quilt as you go patterns that I could use but don't know how to finish the back in a way that I am satisfied. I took a class one time and the only way to finish the back was to add the strips on the back and because the quilt blocks were so heavily textured and quilted, the strips needed to be hand stitched down on the back. That beautiful, very expensive quilt is in a bag in the basement and someone else can deal with it after I die!!

I really love your choice of purple, because it both picks up the lighter purples in many of your blocks and complements the gray in the background fabric. I agree with you that it will be far easier to join the already quilted blocks by joining with strips. The size of the strips will obviously turn out to be about half as wide as shown when the seam allowances are used. I am curious also about how you will be dealing with the back of the quilt. Will it also have strips or will you just be turning the edges of each block and whipping them together?

The back of the quilt is a grey white pattern .
I have tried different colours on the back and really have not found any thing i like yet .
So i,m thinking i,m just going to use the same colour for the back strips of the blocks.
From all the reading I have looked at it does not seem to hard as of now .
But ask me later today lol
As you can see the back is going to be really easy to match as the pattern is very busy so hoping it blends right in .
The front will have 1/2 inch strip and the back as well . Think I,ll cut a 1 1/2 piece and sort of do it like binding fold in half and press and stich 1/4 seam then fold over and sew to other half same with the back .
