I agree that generic feet really don't work well. But there was a time before Bernina had made 1/4" foot since they were late in making one. The woman known as the Purple lady is well know for her Little Foot and Big Foot.

I still own the little foot (did purchase the Bernina adapter foot) that I bought before Bernina produced the #37 foot. It has an 1/8" seam allowance on the left side which I use sewing down the flap on pillowcases.

I've had good luck getting the older style feet on EBay!

I suggest that under the place where the guide screws in, place a small piece of wool or one of the red felt pads used under spools. Over time the area can get scratched up. Interesting that the guide is advertised for a Bernina because I have several of those in boxes of Singer accessories.

quilterpurpledog, Yes, I am going to wait and get genuine Bernina accessories. I did read the #37 with narrow prongs works better than the wide prongs, is this good information?

ManiacQuilter2--I have the adapter! It is currently attached to a plastic zipper foot! My treasures just keep getting better!!

I called the seller yesterday and asked her to look for the red travel case. Wouldn't it be wonderful if she found it with the table and knee lever inside.

Yes, the feet are spendy, but I think the best foot I purchased ever for the Bernina 830 is foot #97D it is a 1/4" foot and because it is a D foot you also use the even feet foot with it. Do not buy the foot they originally recommended as a 1/4" foot...I think it is #57......it does not line up with the feed dogs on this machine. It is fine for other machines, but not the 830. You will absolutely love this foot. If you are unsure go to your dealer and try it out

Well, first things first...my first purchase will be a new foot control.
I was sewing, walked away to take a phone call, and wouldn't you know the machine took off on its own.
Evidently this was/is a problem with the older models.
A New Bernina foot control today's quote- $325.
Hubby researched and we are going to go with a solid state electronic version found on EBay for $59. UGH!

I have a Bernina 440 and I also buy the correct Bernina feet when I need one. Sticker price is high but I believe the original ones work better for this machine.
