Dear Jane was one of my first quilts I ever made......Each block gave me a new opportunity to try a new technique, like applique, reverse applique, freezer paper applique, needle turn applique, paper piecing, machine piecing, hand piecing, English paper piecing. I joined a Dear Jane club and we discussed what was the best technique for each block. There was only a book at the time, and no CD. I worked on the blocks sitting on bleachers for years while my daughter played sports. It was a small project and traveled well. I has a lot of fun, and I learned a lot, and now quilting is my passion and I do some kind of quilting every day.

I finished 4 blocks today and have to iron on the applique to a 5th. I am in between working on the squares for ds's wedding quilt and planning my niece's wedding quilt so I thought I would go back to Jane. I will post pictures tomorrow. Maybe even do a couple before I post.

    Default When Jane Was Blue

This is my interpretation of Dear Jane. I made it in 2005/6 when I first started quilting. It helped me learn all the techniques of quilting and introduced me to friends who were attempting the same. I was an avid embroiderer and every other block is an embroidered "shadow". The back has a quilt design too. and it was a quilt as you go. All these things my quilt friends thought were weird (now much more common) but I was too dumb to know what was a standard quilting technique, and what was "weird". I named her, "When Jane Was Blue" . I've won many ribbons for her. Enjoy:
