Thanks Loretta...thank goodness I have lots of colorful buttons :) I don't think I am doing horrible at my first try, but to be honest I am so jealous of how brilliant you all are, I feel like my blocks are poop! It's supose to be an easy starters block, so I can't figure out why none of it is turning up perfect.

you can sew 1/2 of the block and press seams to one side, then make the other half and press to side. then place together and pin on either side of the center seam and sew. press the center seam open if necessary.
or you could press all seams open and sew 1/2 and the other. either way the center seam should be perfect. just takes a bit of practice. good luck.

I've only done one pinwheel quilt but I found if I put my blocks togethr left 1/2 to right 1/2 instead of top 1/2 and bottom 1/2 they lined up much better. Don't understand why but that's how it worked for me.
I'm usually not a pinner but found that I had to with pinwheels. I pinned each seam, both sides where they met, and then just a hair to the left of the seam.
Hope this helps.

I place one pin staight in (at 90 degrees) through both blocks at the exact place of the points. Keep that pin at that 90 degree angle - don't make the 2nd entry into the fabric. Then I place one pin on either side of the first pin - very close to the first pin. Those two pins are inserted perpendicular to the fabric, coming in at a very flat angle - insert completely. Then I remove that first pin. If you insert a pin at a 90 angle, then flatten/tip it to make the 2nd stick, you immediately shift that top fabric, and your points will not line up. Hope can follow this verbal-picture.
