My two sewing machines are relatively new (2 yrs and 7 yrs) They are both computerized. Will a dimmer switch mess up these "newer" machines-- you mention older machines -- how much older? I don't want to have to buy a new machine. Am anxiously awaiting your reply/comments.

I would not do this with a computerized machine. I think it was mentioned in a pervious post by someone about non-electronic machines

I am going to try it with a very inexpensive older Kenmore. So if the motor suffers from low voltage damage, I won't have lost much.

i would not use on any computerized machine.. i am using it on old singers.. ones with no speed control built into the machines.
again.. this works fantastic for me.. you have to make your own decisions.

I am in the process of setting up my mothers Singer 401A for use on a FMQ frame. This machine has 2 separate cords, and connectors, a power cord and a foot control With cord. I love this idea for hand control but do I just plug the power cord into it and leave the foot controller off?

yeah, my machine has a regulator, and probably couldn't FM without it.

That's such a brilliant idea. I haven't done FMQ yet, but would be great for applique. Best not let the people that make those stitch regulators get whiff of this...LOL
