Default Going to try it my way?

I watched on my PBS station a current, 3100 series, episode of f&p.....the quilt is called Orange Peel Two Step, then at Walmart the other day, in the small fabric section, I spotted the new Love of Quilting mag, so leafed thru it and saw the same pattern - so bought it! Since this is done with f&p templates and I really don't feel like investing, I broke it down in a different way...may change size of block but no prob....here's my thought: hst for background, then since I have msqc Orange peel, I can cut from two colors, or even just one, to make it even simpler, fuse w/interfacing, blanket stitch down and put in sashing as directed....ill make a prototype and show here.....probably not til weekend though.....
    so think that will work?

Sounds like a good plan. I am all for easier ways to get the similar results.

I am looking at the pattern in the magazine as I write this. Your way is very doable. Not knowing the size MSQC template you have, it wouldn't be difficult to make a thick plastic or cardboard template using the 7" finished melon template in the magazine. The rest of the pattern measurements are already figured out in the magazine. Squares for HST could be 6" then trim.

NanaCsews2 - thanks for that idea...will do sample both ways.......I bought a frosted flexible plastic cutting mat from dollar tree store ( love that place), just like sheet at JAF, but price is better! This will be a good way to try as template....
