You did not say what the width of each strip is. I’m assuming it’s one inch. I would rip out the side with 41 chevrons and take in many seams by 1/16th inch. I would think it wouldn’t be noticeable. Then I would add another piece to make 42. Lots of work but that would make me happiest.

This is essentially what bkay was saying as well. I would probably have to do this myself instead of adding a plain piece in the middle. My symetrical brain would not let me have the border any other way, lol.

It appears that your situation has been analyzed adequately so you can choose a solution now that is in keeping with your own feelings. I would adjust the seam allowance on a few of the border pieces. If I want to make the border smaller, I would make a seam right next to the existing seam on a few border pieces until it fits. If it’s too short, I would make a few seams smaller. It is unlikely that anyone will ever notice.

I would not try to 'make it work'. I would use cornerstones and probably do them in one of the other shades, maybe the darker brown or even the blue. Rather than hiding it, make it look like you planned it that way!

A corner stone with some type of curved appliqué would camouflage any corner difference. You could then say, “I liked this way better than the pattern.” Lol. Remember it is your quilt, make it your way. No “accidents, just design decisions”
