Default Flannel where to get the good stuff?

Hi again! I am thinking of backing a quilt with flannel but don't want it to pill. Do any of you have a source for a better quality flannel?

I love Moda flannel. MSQC has a good selection of it. https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...Moda%2BFabrics

Be forewarned, while really good at shipping out precuts, they are abysmally slow in fulfilling yardage orders. My order took 2 weeks before they shipped and that was only because I contacted them. Then the shipping took another full week so if you want your fabric sooner you may need to find another source.

I have also had good luck with flannel made by clothworks, northcott, Henry glass and Bernatex. Thousands of bolts carries all those brands and while searching their site, it appears they have a wideback flannel by Moda. TOB definitely has the best prices. Here is a link to the moda wide back I found. Disclaimer, I have never used Moda wideback flannel so can't attest that the quality is the same as their standard width flannel.

I love Moda flannel as well. Thick, soft, yummy.

Hi Charlie, Look for the term "double napped" which tends to be thicker. I have had good luck with Timeless Treasures - but they might make several different types.

Recently, I got some Timeless Treasures flannel on sale from Hancock's of Paducah. It feels as nice as the Moda I have used in the past.

I also got some Wilmington Prints wide back flannel from them. It washed beautifully (while I don't usually prewash, I do with flannel bc of the shrinkage), but I have not put the quilt sandwich together yet, so can't tell you how well it will stand up over time. It's currently $12/yd for the 108". http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/s.nl...AL+FLANNEL+108

Thanks for the great info folks. That $12/yd for 3 yards wide price seems great and the other suggestions are so helpful. Thanks.

I have found quality flannel sheets at thrift stores that I have used. In a recent child's quilt I layered with 2 thicknesses. of course it was a neutral color..

Thanks everyone for the info on flannel and good places to purchase it. Quilters are so kind to share.

Believe it or not but Joann's Luxe Flannel (which is on sale now) is sooo nice. It washes up to be the softest flannel. Not a great variety of patterns but what I have gotten is great.
