    Default Wool batting and bugs

I finally decided to try wool batting [Hobbs premium washable] and Love it. However, a thought just occurred to me - do I need to worry about moths and other wool-eating pests if I use wool batting in my quilts? We live in the midwest where I occasionally find those nasty little moths in my closet...

I have never thought about that aspect of wool batting. I really like to use it; I will be interested in the responses of other people.

I once had a couple of cashmere wool sweaters and they each came with a cotton bag to store it in. I assumed this was to keep moths out? So it seems the top and backing of a quilt would encase it in fabric and keep the moths away? Maybe google how to keep moths away.

Here's a link I just found to a Martha Stewart article about moths

You could sprinkle lavender and cedar chips where you store your quilt batting. I made a bunch of sachets filled with lavender, rosemary, bay leave and cedar chips that I keep in my quilt fabric and batting.

Wool Batting is naturally fire proof too so great choice for quilts.

Use bay leaves between folds of quilt, scattered in storage chest, in grains in pantry, and in closets. They also deter moths in furs. I've also used Dr. Bronner's liquid soap with euclyptus to wash wool quilts.

I have quilts with wool batting that are about 15 years old now— no sign of any ( moth problems) or any other issues

You don’t need to worry about moths as long as your quilt is made with cotton fabric. Wool fabric could attract moths to your quilt, but as long as our wool batting is inside cotton fabric, you won’t have to worry about moths. Steph from Hobbs
