I have the Ikea wall mounted magazine holder for my bigger rulers and the small ones I use command hooks for the square ones on the side of my cabinet, for all the odd shaped ones, I have a scarf hanger, it’s a metal hoop with a hanger, and I just slide ruler I want round to the opening to get it.

For 30 years my shop has been a mess. I just got done redesigning my work area. I sew on a large oversized wooden office desk. To my right is a large folding table. Below is a tote and 1 plastic drawer unit. Above the folding table hubby mounted a full sheet of peg board. Everything I could think of is on the peg board. When cleaning I found so many duplicate items. I LOVE this set up and hopefully I wont damage any more of my rulers. Over the years while working I have knocked them off my cutting table and cracked them. Also......brought down 2 pieces of furniture to help me store items. One was a entertainment Center for quilt fabric and my machines. The other is a used dresser that sits at the end of the folding table. So I wouldn't have to look at the unpainted back I took scrap fabric and made a quilted storage panel so that I can place my manual and other reference books in along with being able to pin blocks I'm working on in between jobs.

I use the same office sorter that RhondaK uses. Mine came from Goodwill for $1.49.

Before I put up nails to hang them on one side of a cabinet, I use to put them in an old napkin holder. Of course, that took up counter space, so it wasn't ideal.

I have a slotted wooden holder, probably similar to mic-pa's. It's 12"x4"x1" and has 5 backward slanted slots. Since your husband made your cabinet, perhaps he could custom make you a similar holder to suit your rulers.

I love mine because you can remove/replace any ruler without disturbing any others.

I have a dresser drawer dedicated to rulers, plastic templates (in a box), rotary cutters + blades, and smaller cutting mats. No, it is not the most efficient way to store them, but it will do until I get the pegboard I want!

I currently have a peg board with hooks. As you said the one I want is always the one on the bottom of the pile. I am in the process of redoing some of the storage in my sewing room. It is starting to look like a hoarder lives in there. A total mess. I just added a dresser for storage. Next step is my rulers. I bought these https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40070185/ at Ikea. Bekvam spice shelves. They come in 2 different lengths. I am going to hang them on the peg board and just have the rulers in them. I have seen it done on Pinterest.

I have two of those slotted boards and of course I can't pass up a ruler. So they are full. I need to weed out some not in use.

Somebody posted somewhere an idea to use a closet bar and pant hangers to hang the rulers. Or maybe wire hangers and chip clips.
