Next week on our way to Kansas, hubby has agreed to take a detour to Hamilton, MO. Won't mention the name of the quilt shop/village mecca as it might be against QB rules. The founder of the company's initials are J.D. Anyhow, who has been there and is there anything I shouldn't miss? Will have about four hours to shop next Monday and will send hubby to Man's Land to relax. Wish me luck.

I have been there. There are various stores for different types of fabrics. You will want to visit all of them. I guess it depends what types of fabrics you enjoy using the most. Where in Kansas are you headed?

Bbet - My husband is going hunting. Believe its smack-dab in the middle of the state. A tiny rural area called Little River. It is my understanding the closest larger town is MacPherson.

It's been a few years since I was there but found that by going to the "main" store, their original store, and registering then any store where you purchase goes much faster because they scan the code you get and you don't have to keep repeating your info each time. Look online at the different stores and go to your favorite interest stores first. I always do the reproduction store and Penny's, the solids store, the seasonal store and then any others I have time for. It's a quilters disneyland so have fun.

For all that’s there, it’s still pretty small. Four hours is plenty of time to see everything, maybe even twice. Enjoy!

Oh, my goodness, I'm so tickled for you! And not just because of Hamilton, but because you will be so close to where I spent some wonderful childhood years. You are going to Little River, which is halfway between Alden and McPherson.

My dad pastored a church in Alden in the mid 70s. I was 9-10 years old. Population maybe 150? The roads aren't paved...well, maybe Main St, which is all of 3 blocks long and has a post office, cafe (which goes in and out of business), the quilt shop, and a grain elevator. LOL Seriously, it's a sleepy little town but the quilt shop is hoppin!! ANd the owner has a Smart Car covered in quilt designs! Probably parks it out front every day.


But wait, there's more! When we lived there, the streets weren't named. The main street was just called "uptown."
As in "I'm going up town to the cafe', I'm going uptown to the post office."

There was a huge five-and-dime/craft store owned by the rich lady in town. She eventually turned the whole space into a humongous quilt store! I've never seen so much fabric. Well, at the tender age of 96, she decided she ought to think about selling it, and she did. The new owner revamped it, and it is a great quilt shop--Alden Prairie Crafts. You simply must go. It's big and bright and friendly. People come from far and wide to Alden Prairie Crafts. It's the biggest thing in town. My best friend still lives there!

PS I've been to MSQC also. Darling mecca for quilters. Each building has a specialty type of fabric, so choose your favorite types to visit. Start in the main one, get your pass and map, then walk around. There is a Subway and another place to eat right next to the main bldg. We liked that one. It's always windy in KS, so bundle up!

Shopping suggestions are good. I would add: go with an idea in mind. I pretty much kept to fabric that would complete a project I had in mind, or backing for a completed project. 12 stores can be overwhelming. I have been there twice, both times with my husband who hates to shop or even stop. He even suggested we go again the second time. He loved Mans Land, brought a book, coffee is available as is a pool table. The various small restaurants are all good with friendly staff, so hope you both enjoy! I was able to complete my shopping in 2 1/2 hrs. and bought over 25 yds. of fabric, a ruler, jelly roll, and a couple patterns. Ask at the main building, but if you spend over a certain amount, they will even ship it to your house for free, just like internet orders. That was great because we were heading to Seattle and then taking the train home, so not much space on the return trip.
