My Brother ULT sew/emb machine did the same.."raise presser foot" Couldn't do anything with it...off to repair shop! I think they told me they put a new spring in the presser foot lift. Was repaired right away.

happy new tool! If you just got it, it is your dealer you need to talk to rather than us.

Is this a combo machine with an EMB unit? Did you try turning off/on the machine? Try turning the hand-wheel to see if the machine re-sets.

There may be a lever on the back that you can raise. It goes higher than the machine setting. Look at page 20 in the manual.

    Good luck!

Thanks all. I volunteer at Women In Distress thrift store. I fix and price the sewing machines, quilt fabric and notions. Last week three machines were donated. I cleaned and verified if the machines work and research prices. I only have vintage machines, so the Janome is new to me to work on. Rhonda K I was looking at page 20 and have not been able to figure that out yet. It is a combo machine.

    I'll keep trying. Again, thanks.

This happens to me occasionally and is usually cleared by putting the presser foot down, turning off the machine, turn the machine on again, and raise the presser foot. Also try pressing the needle up/down button.

Kplumbridge, when I leave the presser foot down, I get message that says "raise presser foot." Then when I raise presser foot it makes a grinding noise. I also tries the neddle up/down. No change.

    All suggestions welcome.
