That is the most beautiful tie quilt I have ever seen. I plan to do one with my husband's ties.

Just stunning...to have 171 ties from one man...he must have been quite a business man! I love this. What a super way to use the ties. I saw one other way ties were displayed, and it wasn't in a quilt. On the highway going up to Ainsworth Hotsprings in B.C., the power poles on the sides of the roads, had necktimes TIED..about 20 feet up. It was so much fun to watch them go by. This quilt will be loved even more for the next many years. Did you give it to the lady? She saw him wear them, now she can "hold" them. Joanie

I got the center done of one like this but put it aside to work on something else. I should get it out and get the borders done.

I still love yours. Thanks again for posting it.

Actually he was a retired minister. My husband is a minister also. When we came to this Church to pastor his wife found out I was a quilter. She said she had always wanted to make a quilt from his ties, but she didn't know how. I told her I would be glad to do it for her. When he died he had over 300 ties. She said he love to shop for ties. She gave a lot of them away. After I got through with the quilt she found another box full.

As I said before that is the most beautiful tie quilt. I bought the book to have the pattern but would like to know more. How did you sew on the ties? Can one tie be used more than once? How did you do the border?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your nice comments. I cut the ties out with the template provided in the book and sewed the ties together to make a fan, I then appliqued each fan to a background block with my sewing machine set on an applique stitch. Yes you certainly can use a tie in more than one fan block. I had to use 21 of them twice. The border is a braided border. I saw it on the internet but I cannot remember which web sight it was on. If you google braided quilts you can probably find a web sight for it.
