Mold on maple syrup

I use maple syrup in several recipes. After I open the jar, I get this white mold on top. Not a lot but mold none the less. I suspect that it forms because the jar it comes in is glass. But since it sits in the cupboard, there is no light in there. When I use it, I have to skim the mold off. I don't remember mold on maple syrup when I was a kid. Maybe because it's in a glass container instead of a dark one? Does anyone have a solution to this problem.
