Here's another similar patter I got a few years back. Makes a skinnier tree and requires a specific ruler, but might be something you could adapt into the desired size, or at least get some ideas on construction techniques.

Thank you, polkweed, for this wonderful pattern. This is definitely one I can use for holiday quilt projects and may be very helpful in creating my tree for my "dream quilt". I really appreciate your reply. Happy holidays!!
