I buy fabric that "speaks" to me (seems like they all do) and then I take it home and add it to the stash. It then takes me a monumental amount of time to decide what I want to put together!!

i pick out 1 fabric that inspires me, and go from there. the only "collection" i have is several of the moda marbles, just because they go with everytthing.

Thanks for your question! I've been wondering the same thing...saw the "jelly rolls" and could see why they were so named, but thanks for all the other info from folks!

Am I crazy?
I don't call that crazy. You need to do what you are most comfortable with; it's your money, your time, your quilts.

To me, part of the fun is shopping for the "perfect" fabric, so I don't usually do a project only from a specific collection. I may use 2 from a collection and 2 or 3 others not from the collection. I don't like to be too "matchy matchy".

I tend to choose a focal fabric by color and feel and then add blenders, etc. by choice of color rather than from the same collection. I think it can look boring to just use all the fabrics from one collection but then I do a lot of applique by hand so for me it is all about the color.

My neighbor loves only the collections.

I usually pick colors that go together and fabrics I really like. For me, this is part of the fun.
