do you sew through the seam line or just up to it. I did some PP today and it makes it difficult to trim seams if you sew all the way to the edge. I am not sure if that is the correct way to do it.

I sew about 1/4" past the end of the line I'm sewing on. Some of the seams do get difficult to trim.

I sew right on the line, but I sew a little more at the beginning and a little more at the end and I trim and press after each peice. So before I fold the fabric over I fold the paper on that one line that I just sewed and use my add a quarter ruler and cut. than I use my iron with no steam and press I do not use freezer paper I buy a specialty paper piecing paper. (worth it!)

If you follow Brenda Henning's instructions, you don't cross lines more than once. Usually you end directly on the line. That way you don't have those annoying tiny y-shaped pieces of paper to pick out.

I LOVE this method because I don't have to think about when I have to start or stop sewing, I can sew the whole seam and I have no problem, plus I don't have to worry about the shape of my pieces so much since I can trim my quarter inch seam after I sew. I would never pp any other way after trying this method. The only thing you have to remember when doing this is you have to print your pattern backwards on the paper.

I have never seen it done on the freezer paper that way. That sounds like a good way to do it. I suppose you would have to be careful to have at least a 1/4 inch of fabric sticking out from the pattern so you would have that fabric when trimming. Thanks for the help.

I sew 3-4 stitches over the seams at the beginning and end, then I just tug the paper loose and trim the seams.
In doing this, the seams don't come loose/undone when tearing off the paper and the points all stay very nice for me. I remove those little paper triangles as I go along, not leaving them until the end :wink:

You do, but I kind of put the fabric behind and hold it up to the light real quick to make sure it looks okay then sew. I love this method so much. I tried regular pp and could never get it right as I am nt a very precise sewer, this method is perfect and will work on any pp design that I have come across.

I want to make a paper pieced camp theme quilt, I have some simple clipart and would like to make my own patterns, but I don't own any quilting software. Does anyone make their own patterns?
