Time for a chocolate break, and maybe a dew.

I drink coffee and then sew. When the bladder hollers, I take a break, run a load of wash, and drink another cup of coffee.

for me, it's time for a break when I discover I cut a lot of pieces out and didn't reverse my pattern, Or when I forget what i'm doing and iron sticky backing on my iron instead of the material. I hate that!!!!

My faithful doxie tells me when it's time to stop and let her out. Then we both take a break, have an ice cream bar and relax a bit before returning to the task at hand.

When I start cussing like a sailor, and the f-bomb detonates.

I know it is time for a break when the same piece has to be ripped three times in a row. I shriek, say a few unfortunate words, then shut it all down and go to bed.

When I make stupid mistakes (some of them repeatedly) and my shoulders are screaming.

I sometimes also work through the night and unfortunately the other night I trimmed a block to short that was supposed to measure 13.5" unfinished. Now I'm scouring the city quilt shops for another piece of the focus fabric I messed up (hot air baloons on a bright blue background) which is part of a block swap but I don't know who this particular focus fabric belongs to, unless I call the block swap moderator.
