I am doing some quilts with hand embroidery. I just did a part with a perle cotton. I love the look of it. Does anyone else use perle cotton. What are your favorite types of thread? I like Cosmo floss over DMC, I am thinking. Cosmo is more expensive though and I have to order it online as no shops close by carry it.

For Perle cotton - I love Valdani threads. Here is a link to their site:

I've used pearl cotton, DMC, Weeks Overdyed....whatever hits me. I also do counted-cross stitch so threads from that hobby have made it on to my quilts. I will even used fluffy, fuzzy yarn for somethings. Depends on what hits me as I am working. I have never heard of Cosmo. I am going to have to look that up.

Thank you, Betty. I will check the website. How many strands of floss do you use?
What size of pearl cotton threads?

I am currently working on - well not right now, Fairy Godmother is making princess dresses right now - a pattern called Snowfolks from Bobbie G Designs (http://www.bobbiegdesigns.com/item.asp?id=280&cat=25).

I am using a variegated blue silk from Vikki Clayton. LOVE LOVE LOVE her silks. And they are ALL (but the deepest reds) colorfast. And she even dyes Perle, Chennile, and fabrics too. LOVE!!!

But I have used, Perle, Floss, Quilting Thread, whatever. Like Luv Quilts and Cats, what ever interests me at the moment.

On Snowfolks, I am doing it in snowflakes and blues in my fabrics and a beautiful variegated from ice blues to deep, clear, dark blues. I really want to get to the point that I can work on it again. But between Fairy Godmother duties, Christmas and committments, it will be awhile. It's only for me, so it waits.

I checked the Valdani website. Yummy yummy...a feast for the eyes. I was at market in Portland. Oh how I wish I would have checked them out. I was not feeling good and had a limited time there.

I used the Perle Cotton on a wool applique

http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ne-t26564.html

Another QB Member suggested it - I used is as it came off the spool - I did not break it up. The reason I liked it, was it was shiny, clear color and beautiful to stitch with. It did not loose it's sheen as others do when you stitch with it. I (lol - here goes my confession) am LAZY - and tend to use thread longer then I should resulting in less shiny thread, knots and twists - none of which I encountered using the Valdani.
