Right now I am in my scrap quilt phase. I don't have a yardage stash. People in my quilting group have been giving me scraps. It is getting overwhelming. I'm on my 5th scrap quilt. I have more ideas. One day I will get tired of scraps, I guess. The smallest I've done so far is 1.5 inch pieces. Mostly 2 inch pieces.

I only save scraps 5" or larger, and donate the rest to a facility that teachers can use for their art classes and classrooms. I can't deal with all the scraps or clutter and would never hunt for the right fabric if I can't organize them. That being said, I keep all my batik scraps, as I do a lot of applique. I used to save selvages but I quit as I have enough to do a "string" picnic quilt with them and maybe more.

I cut scraps to no smaller than 2" whether it's a square, triangle or rectangles. Strips are cut to 2 1/2" by what ever length is left from a project.
Odd scraps are stashed in a trash bag and used as stuffing for dog cushions.

Thanks so much for posting the videos of the Quilting Marine - I have watched several of them and have really enjoyed them. Some days I just need some mindless sewing and his blocks are so pretty - might even have to go poking around our Goodwill stores - not that I need more scraps.....(grin).....

I am a scrap saver. If there is some one in your family that did quilt or wants to learn. These scraps are great memories.
Here is one that uses 4 generations of scraps. It is a treasure and I am glad that they saved the scraps. It will be a treasure for the next generation. Four grandmothers scraps are in this quilt.
