Default Feathered Rice

Recipe found in an ancient cookbook - no clue as to how it got its name.

”Feathered Rice”
Spread 1 cup rice in a 9x13 cake pan. (I used brown)
Place in 375 degree oven until golden. (Good thing I checked in 12-14 minutes, it was golden)
Pour into buttered baking dish with a cover
Add salt to taste and 2.5 cups boiling water and 3 Tblsp butter
Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees (more like 40 minutes)

I added 1/2 pkg frozen vegetables last 10 minutes & vegetable seasoning I had on hand

Sounds pretty easy, and I'm guessing it must have tasted pretty good if you're sharing the recipe?

I'll have to try this when the weather cools down. It will make an easy all in the oven meal prep when serving roast chicken!

Just saved this one. I love rice but as others said with the cool weather on the horizon, it will make the warmth of the oven work for more than one dish. Thanks for sharing your recipe and God Bless the gems we find in "ancient cookbooks". Our foremothers were often pretty wise women in the kitchen. OK, maybe some forefathers too!

That sounds good. I make a chicken and rice that is similar.

1 1/2 cup rice
1 package Onion soup mix
1 stick butter
Chicken pieces
3 cups water

In a 9 x 13 baking dish, melt butter, add rice, place chicken on rice, sprinkle the onion soup mix, add water. Cover with foil. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees. Really good.

Sounds like the beginning of rice-a- roni, using oven instead of stovetop

Hey, that sounds pretty good. Yep, I'm putting this one on my refrigerator, because in less than a month the weather is going to turn cold. I'm looking forward to Halloween weather.

I do this one but add broccoli and also use part water and part white wine.

The recipe sounds good, but the name gave me a picture of rice with feathers in it. Yick! I will try it next week.

I just made this rice for dinner. I haven't a clue why they call it Feathered Rice, which I agree is a terrible name, but it was very good. All I had was Minute Rice, so I just used the same amount of water to rice. With using the Minute Rice, the dish was ready in 45 minutes.
Next time I will use Jasmine rice and cook it longer, as written.

My husband, who hates onions, really liked the rice, too. That says a lot.
