Help finding Patterns for Mariner's Compass or New York Beauty
I want to make some 12" blocks that contain a Mariner's Compass and/or New York Beauties, preferably by paper piecing. I have found many You tubes on how to "flip and stitch" and make great points, but where can I find the paper patterns? I am willing to buy how-to books if they come with the patterns, or just the patterns made by designers, I just can't find any. Any suggestions or recommendations out there?

Jinny Beyer has a pattern called Moonglow that has Mariner's Compasses of various difficulty in it.
It was a free download once upon a time - but I do not see that now.

If I remember correctly - The "unfinished" size of the Mariner's Compass part of each block was 11-3/4 x 11-3/4 inches.

Janet, I have the book Mariner's Compass Quilts New Directions by Judy Mathieson. Perfect condition, never used. I know you are in VA and I am willing to put in the mail to you tomorrow. Send me your address by PM. I believe I have it but want to be sure of it. Sally

I have Judy Matheison's other book, Mariner's compass setting a new course and I highly recommend it. If Sprice's book is anything like that you should get it. In the one I have, she details how to draft your own MC blocks in any size. Patterns are also included in the book but they make 16" or 14", I can't remember which, compasses (and some larger ones that are on an insert). She shows how to do it traditional PP as well as freezer PP where you fold back the paper and stitch next to it. I really enjoyed the process and made these quilts using her book: https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictures-f5/my-mariners-compass-%22dans-tats%22-won-vendors-choice-ribbon-t161213.html

NYB there are some free patterns out. This is one of my favorites but they are 8" blocks. https://www.lenzula.com/free-pattern/new-york-beauty/

Moonglow is still a free pattern. The pattern is quite ling, so be sure your printer has enough paper. Every alternate block is a Mariner’s Compass, with two[?] repeats.
