What you have done already is so perfect. I have always wanted to do a OBW or Kaleidoscope quilt. I tired once and it very quickly ended in my UFO bin where it remains for another day. I will be watching this posting closely.

I like what you've done there, Watson! I can see them 'floating' on a black background looking very cool, indeed! I've been puzzling out how to do a hexi that ends up looking like a "lantern" type quilt. There's endless variety in this craft!

This is what I came up with although I only have done two so far. You can see that if I staggered them the black background would make an interesting secondary pattern.
I'm not sold on this, just experimenting.
I'm trying to get away from having to do it in lines the way it is usually done and having to leave it up on my design wall while I sew it together.
Watson

i like that! It can be set vertical or horizontal.

GingerK is right! The triangles you need to add are 30/60/90 degree angle triangles. Using trig, the (finished) short side of the triangle needs to be half (0.5) the (finished) side of your hexagon. (And then add seam allowances, of course.) The (finished) long side of the triangle needs to be 0.866 of the (finished) side of your hexagon. So, if for example, you will end up with hexagons with 6 inch sides, then you need triangles that finish with 3/5.196/6 sides. (I'd be inclined to cut the triangles a bit on the large size and then trim them even with the hexagons after sewing them on.)

For my likings, it would be a no, as I feel that again you'd lose the kaleido effect.
I've been trying to find an option with the same fabric.
But, sorry, I haven't had any brainwaves!
Granted I am pretty brain-dead these days too.
Watson, you need to do what YOU like and want ... you have a really good creative eye.
Far more than my eyes are capable of!

Do you like this setting? (link provided earlier by QuiltedSunshine)

This one could be done with the hexie fully assembled
with an extra triangles sewn on opposite sides of the hexie.

Otherwise, I would sit down with that hexie paper, and colour away,
to see what I could design for fully assembled hexies.
And I bet you will come up with something totally unique and amazing!!!

I'll be looking forward to seeing what results!

that setting is actually easy once you get the triangles the right size.

That's a great design too!
Though, there's no problem in figuring the triangle size for the design I referenced as it is the same size as the triangles in the hexies.

Watson .... might be an option and frame the hexies?
Using your lavender? or perhaps a teal from the print?
