I have made crib sheets to match baby quilts. I have not tried to make a queen size quilt.

Aw, one of the very first sewing projects I ever did was a flat sheet and pillowcases to match. Basically I sewed the same simple wide border on both the sheet and pillow cases. It felt like such a success at the time, and I used that set until they fell apart! Brings back a smile. I like the idea of a gift of a quilt, and matching sheet top/pillowcases! That just makes it extra special.

I haven't made sheets but I have used fabric scraps to make decorative pillowcases and of course made pillowshams (my favorite). Love the idea of doing the same with the top sheet. But then, quilts are expensive enough. Do I want to purchase sheets for someone too? Have to think on that a while.

That would be a great idea to have sheets to match the quilt. I have never done it but it is a wonderful idea.

I have made pillowcases out of quilt shop quality quilt fabric but they eventually wore out from use...so...no to making sheet sets. I would purchase color coordinated sheet sets. Btw...It took 15 YARDS (one bolt) to make a matching dust ruffle..... Not doing that again either. $200 to make a dust ruffle .....nah. Tho I did love the matchy match!

was it backing fabric”? Backing fabric is not as dense as cotton quilt fabric.

Of course, you could do the opposite...buy the sheets, plus one extra sheet to make a quilt from it.

I would not make sheets either. But then I dont' really care if my sheets match my quilt. I feel like my time is too important to spend it making sheets.
