Default making a quilt for myself!!

Help! I think I went brain dead! LOL I am looking at a pattern from Annie's, Land That I Love. The materials list says I need 20 10" squares of assorted red prints, 20 10" squares assorted cream, white and tan, 20 10" squares assorted blue prints (partial list).
I know the 10" squares are layer cakes, and that I can get these as assorted to meet the material requirements, but do I need to purchase 1 or more layer cakes?
I hope someone can get me straight on this.....I am finally making a quilt for our own bed, after making everyone else one, not that I won't make more for fun!
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Joann

You would need at least 2 layer cakes. However, you can cut your own squares from yardage.
Glad you're making a quilt for YOU!

Good for you! I had been quilting all the time for years and one day realized all my own quilts were in tatters, and that I too was "quilt worthy". I have a goal to have a different themed quilt for each month of the year, but I'm not all the way there yet.

As Susie mentioned, you can cut your own squares as well. Fabric is usually good for 40" across but is sometimes tight when you include white/printed selvedges. If you are buying yardage for them, 1/2 yard isn't such a good size, 18" has a lot of waste but 2/3" yard pieces (24") give you variety (in my opinion) enough room without too much waste/extra cost.

I just looked up that pattern. It's beautiful. Please show us when you get it finished.
