Do you wash your fabric before you cut and sew it?

I wash my larger pieces of fabric, the smaller ones no. After the quilt is finished, I will wash it again- for that finished look, and I would not use spray starch when pressing the fabrics before cutting; this sometimes distorts the fabric.

I always pre-wash my fabric and Also, the binding. I purchased Wright triple fold binding for my quilt, in red, and just by accident I put the binding into water and the red ran. If I had used it as binding on my quilt, it would have ruined my quilt. That may have just been an accident, but, I don't take any chances. Also if I pre-shrink part of my fabric, in the quilt, I need to pre-shrink it all.

It is best to wash your fabric. I wash all my fabrics with a little white vinegar. Some people use the commercial product to set the colors, some use salt. Your cotton will shrink after it has been washed.
