What a beautiful legacy his Grandmother left him. Just think of the work that went into that quilt. I'm sure she didn't have all our modern "quilting made easy gadgets". That is a labor of love. I hope you both cherish it.

Thank you, everyone! To those who asked, it is pieced - not appliquéd - and yes, it looks to be all cotton. Mom had another quilt that belongs to my husband's brother, and it had flying geese on it. Their grandma really had a way with color - they're just beautiful!

Someone mentioned not knowing how people find the time to hand quilt. I can't imagine, especially in the days when so many other things were done by hand - laundry, dishes, etc.

So, how do I wash it? I'm thinking either by hand or the gentle cycle in the machine?
