Wow - I'm amazed by the sweet comments!
I'm a huge Bonnie Hunter fan. She's very down to earth, her patterns are extremely well written, lots of pictures. Several of them are available - free - on her website. Her "signature" style is scrappy; in fact she is a huge proponent of recycling (seemingly now known as upcycling, lol), esp. men's shirts. She has a whole "Scrap Users System" on her website, along with the many patterns and lots of free tips.
I don't so much have scraps as planned strips and pieces that I've cut, following Bonnie's system for strips and squares. Also, Joan Ford from Hummingbird Highway, author of "Scrap Therapy." I'm cutting some of my stash up into strips and squares, but don't have enough to do a pattern like this entirely from those. So I pull outpieces and cut them into strips as needed, plus do a few extras to put into the bin.
Much as I love Bonnie's patterns, the colors she used for this mystery pattern didn't appeal to me. So I started with a fat 1/8th bundle I'd bought (Collection for a Cause: Friendship), which is reds, browns, aqua, tan and cream. I loved the color combination. Not nearly enough fabric, though, or variety - so I started pulling out those colors from my stash. No idea how many different fabrics are in it; I think there are about 20 or so different neutrals.
There's a very active Yahoo group with many folks contributing; it's especially busy during the release of her annual mystery. Lots of advice and encouragement. I think she named this one Easy Street as, believe it or not, until the last clue, the steps were much more manageable than the last couple of years. As a general rule, with working full time, I can't keep up with the whole thing at the same rate as they are released (1 x week from late November to New Year's -ish), but this year I was able to until the last clue.
Somebody in that group did the math... There are 2,377 pieces in the center and another 15 or 20 in the borders. It's a lot, but kind of like eating an elephant - just take one at a time!
Phew - sorry this got kind of long
