been there, done that. On a commission, no less--and I did not get blood on the quilt.
I make what I call "wound powder" from a common weed, throughout the US, that stops the bleeding virtually immediately, quells pain, prevents infection--won't close the wound if there is infection--and is generally, IMHO, an amazing weed. PM if you want to learn how. I've used it when I bleed, like when I sliced my finger cutting veggies, or when I jab myself.

I put a needle through my finger on my very first quilt. I was using a very cheap Singer and was trying to machine applique a circle that had very stiff fusible web on it. I knew I was going to be a die-hard quilter that day because I just went to the bathroom, pulled the broken needle out of my finger with tweezers, bandaged it up and went back to sewing while the thing throbbed like crazy! :-D
