Well, here is another nurse. I've been an Operating Room RN for 36 years, specializing in Cardiac Surgery. Things really have changed in all those years. Funny, I decided to go and work in the large downtown teachng hospital where I did my nursing education. I thought I would stay for a year, and here I am 36 years later, still in the same OR. We have 21 ORs and specialize in Cardiac, major oncology and transplants. It's a busy place but rewarding. Not as much time for quilting as I would like, but hopefully retirement is not too far away.

My first career was domestic engineer and childcare specialist. Then I trained to be a nurse and retired from that on disability from back problems and fibromyalgia. Now I'm just retired and love it! Most days are my own to do with as I please. I am now a domestic goddess! :lol: :D

I never define myself by my career but by my friends,hobbies,faith and family.So when I retire I will still be somebody.

I am a RN/Health Care Coordinator for a small nonprofit agency that provides adult day health services to those who are developmentally disabled/traumatic brain injuries.

I LOVE my job. I used to work in CCU and will never step foot in a hospital again.

I started quilting the year I got married to "have something to do" when I moved to a new state w/ dh to start our careers(both working opposite shifts) and I ride horses to stay in shape!

My career was retail based. After college I was the store manager of 2 different Joann Fabrics. We moved a lot with my husband's career & I had other retail management jobs the last one was working in & being a buyer for a small upscale women's clothing store. I have been fortunate enough to be able to stay home with my children & that has been the best job of all! Now that the are (mostly!) grown I am able to do some travelling with my husband (he travels quite a bit for his job) & indulge myself in my quilting & sewing!

I'm happily retired. I officially hate to make any commitments that require me to get up before 9:00 AM five (or more) days a week. In fact, I've become commitment-phobic and have to force myself to commit to planning anything out of the ordinary - except seeing my grandkids, which is ALWAYS delightful and out of the ordinary!

I'm not depressed by retirement at all, I just love being the 'boss of me'! I hate the thought of ever being on a "schedule" again and guard my time jealously! However, for the first time in my life I am enjoying hosting guests in our home. Seems that in the past, with all my other commitments (work, home, kids,husband), entertaining was just more work to me, a chore.

And I did stumble into quilting, which takes up a lot of time and keeps my brain active!

I loved the way you described how as a Mom you have held every job possible. That certainly makes you somebody. Beware that many of us have or had jobs only because we need to help bring money into the home. at least in my case, I wished I could be home with the kids rather than out working. Everyone is somebody, because we all compliment each other. As a working mother, do you know how many times I was helped by a stay home mom when I couldn't find affordable day care for my kids? or when the kids were sick and couldn't go to day care? A stay home Mom was always my back up and I was happy to know she was there to help. Give yourself credit. I am sure your kids love what you have done for them.
