Once right down the middle of my thumb (fingerprint side). It was late at night and it bleed so bad I googled whether to go to the ER or not with my right hand while holding my left over my head. I would of had to wake up DH to take me and that scared me just as much as bleeding to death! Good news was clean cuts don't require stitches. Lesson learned, no more late night cutting sessions after 2 martinis :oops:

Yeah, just last week, I was cutting quilted fabric and I thought I would give it an extra push down, I pushed down hard on the blade, it bled forever!

i did once and that was enough so then i got the klutz glove from fons and porter when i cut a lot for quilts

It has happened to me a couple of times but since then I not only shut them I put them up on a shelf next to the table so if I forget to shut them I won't be bitten again.

ALWAYS thumb the blade in, even between cutting strips. If you really can't teach yourself to do this as second nature, get one of the retractable cutters. And change your blade OFTEN - is a sliced finger worth a few dollars worth of blade? And learn basic cutting skills - look on YouTube there must be videos on there, cutter vertical as possible, hand on the ruler, pinky on the mat to stop it slipping, cut til level with your hand, stop and leave cutter in place, walk hand up the ruler, cut again. These are basic skills that we should all master - rotary cutters are dangerous. :shock: :-)

Just getting caught up on my emails and read yours. I ended up at the dentist office when I cut my finger with the rotary cutter. It was bleeding and wouldn't stop but didn't need stitches. I remember that the dentist had put something on my neighbor's gums after some type of surgery that had stopped the bleeding caused by the surgery. Not where I thought I would go for help.

I have done tiny things. You know those Fons and Porter people always use a glove on the hand that is on the ruler. I won't do that but it probably would be better than cutting yourself.

Those rascals can be dangerous! One of my handquilting group friends sliced off a tip of a finger. I dropped mine and it glanced off my foot--lots of blood, but only a scratch really. Renewed my respect for that wonderful tool!
