Truthfully,a 15 year old Janome is worth that much. Parts are getting harder to find for these older machines and it is not a true embroidery machine. I have a much newer 5000 with all of the embroidery and it is worth 250. Per eBay. It's a great machine, the 9000' certainly worth the 140. This is not a step down from the 10000. They stopped producing these in 1995 according to their Investor packet, and made the 4000, 5000, 6000, 6500 and so on. This embroidery operates on a "scan & sew" memory card that is no longer supported. You plug the card into your "scan & sew" unit to copy designs and resize them then plug the card into your machine and sew it out. Without the s & s, you can't do embroidery.

Ah, thanks so much for the clarification.

Then I totally misunderstood the number. I thought it was a step up from the 6600 and right under the 11000.

I hate when the sm companies do that.

So then the $140 could be legit.

But the jist of the pawn shop workings remains the same. ;-)

They probably gave the person $40. to 50. for it. I have a friend in desparate straits who pawned her 11000 with all attachments for $650.00 to buy her meds because her SS check got lost. I gave her the money and she paid me back when she finally got her check (big reason to have direct deposit on SS chks). We went to buy it back from pawn and paid $917.35 and they only had it 8 days. What rip-offs.

    Oh my gosh!

Still, I've NEVER seen this machine offered at such a low price. There are two on ebay right now asking $700 and $1,000 each...

Ok, now I'm officially confused again.

So it IS an older machine but a very popular model?

I'm not a Janome person (except for my JemGold) so I don't know.

It could have ended up there any number of ways which would explain someone accepting so little for it.

The MC9500 with B&W screen are 1295. new and 9700 w/ color touch screen 1499. new but still tied to a box and the old memory block. No direct connect like the 5500, 6000, & 6500.
Its old technology but still a great embroidery system just very cumbersome to use. My 5000 does a 5x7 nicely but takes an hour to set up to emb. One of the Brother $400/500. machines that hook to the computer, is a much better buy because the parts are still available. Most Co's only support 10 years.

And/Or he saw all the hits to his ad. ;-)

Although I can't remember if you can see views/hits on CL the way you can on eBay.
