I can't imagine why you can't still get together. Sounds like she'll need her quilting buddies for 'hugs' now.

So here I am, almost a year later with several quilts, a dress for my grandaughter, a few pincushions, and a mug bucket under my belt, and still itching to learn more and become better at quilting!

There are all sorts of changes and splits going on at work, and as a result, there are some lay-offs taking place. Yesterday afternoon the lady who started our quilting group was informed that next Friday was going to be her last day. Other than her, there were only 4 of us who were still coming faithfully to the group, and 2 of them were friends of her from outside of work. So it looks like our little group is going to now fall apart! :'c(

So what do I do now? I'm on a low income, and can't afford to go to the classes held at the LQS's in the area. I want to keep learning and have no way to do it now. And I have SOOOOOO much fabric, even though my stash is evidently tiny compared to most of you. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do now? I'm really upset about this! *sob*
Join a guild. Check books and magazines out from the library. Use the bajillion resources on the computer.

Our little group takes turns having each other to our houses, but we mostly do hand work there. Once in awhile we will "rent" a little church hall so we can all take our machines. The church only asks for a donation, so we each give $5 and that covers the electricity costs of the room. We take our own food & drinks. Maybe something like that might work for your little group too?

Look for your closest quilt guild. Most guilds also have smaller groups functioning within the larger guild. For example our group has a Stitch and Share group that meets every Wednesday afternoon. It is open to all guild members (135) but only has about 20 regular attenders. You can take all of your quilt problems there and have instant advice and attention. Sometimes we just sit, chat and stitch while other times someone may have a new technique, ruler or pattern to demo to the group. I've learned a lot there and I can only attend when I'm not working.

A lot of libraries have meeting rooms available. Check with them and see if it's okay for a quilt group to meet there. You will probably wind up with even more quilt buddies since the meeting place won't be work related.

The lady who's being layed off will probably need her quilt buddies even more right now.

Don't loose these wonderful friends because of no longer working together.

I also don't understand why the group is falling apart because one person lost her job, did she mention she did not want to meet any more. I belong to a group & when we started two of us were co-wokers as well as close friends and former neighbors. She quit work before I lost my job at the same company and we still met with the others. It was a great way to stay friends. Why don't you talk to her about it, she may feel she wants to keep the group together as much as you do.

Good Luck & remember we are all here to support your quilting habit and answer any questions you may have.

your best bet is to find a guild nearby...even if its only one a month you would be surprised at the friends and info you can soak up...hope you do

I agree. You should be able to continue to quilt!
