    About 10 years ago I heard on some TV show that you could use a white terry cloth hand towel to catch the loose color. Nothing was said about soda ash. I threw them in the wash and reused them for a couple of years. When they got really bad, I replaced them with some other old towels. Works great for me.

    I use the Shout brand color catchers and reuse them until they are a dark color.
