The compass stars are from the book "Mariner's Compass Stars" by Carol Doak and they are paper pieced, the book comes with a CD. The quilt pattern is in Stellar Quilts by Judy Martin. It has much more complicated stars that I wouldn't want to do but, any star will do.

If I make four 8", simpler stars, for the smaller areas I will only need to make 2 more of the 12" complicated ones (2 more because I don't want to use one that is already made).

Looks like I have something to work on today.

Dang... I just put the CD in from the book to select some stars and it won't install on my new laptop. It says the version is not compatible and contact the software vendor about a 64-bit version. I have an old PC that could use it but it is so old and slow that I have problems even doing anything on it.

Never mind!! I went to the web site and it had diretions on how to install on Windows 7! Have to run the setup.exe manually, autorun won't work.

I just ordered two Jinny Beyer fabrics for the sashing/borders. I believe that most of the fabrics in the stars are Jinny Beyer.

Got all of the sheets printed for the middle stars and the corner stars, found the yardage of jet black Bella Solids and the box with the other stars and fabric. It's lunch time and I'm hungry!

Thank you so much for your reply and information. Mariners compass is one of my favorites but until I learned that they could be paper pieced I didn't think it was possible.
