    Thanks Sierra for the info. I was thinking to myself that my Elna should not be any different than my computer, remove the case and clean it. I am going to give it a try.

    Sandypants... I left out something important! My repair man told me that after cleaning to put oil in every "oil hole" and anyplace that two different parts met. Doesn't have to be a lot (shouldn't be too much or it can gum up the machine), just a drop at each place. You can get syringe-like oilers that have a long needle which will let you get in those deeper places.

    I have had things I couldn't fix and they turned out to be nicked bobbin holders, or once a bent something where my needle goes into it's slot. So, don't try to keep going if you can't diagnose the problem yourself! Have fun!!!!
