    I have been thinking they would make a lethal weapon!! Glad I didn't have one when my boys were growing up!!

    On the subject of the round plate around the stitch length lever: I thought there were only those two, but then a couple days ago I saw a Singer 191J for sale. I can't find the ad now, but Google brought me this picture from elsewhere on this board:

    They seem to be pretty rare; it looks like a version of the 201. It also has the tension on the front, so it could (possibly) be the one your wife is looking for, if the 201 isn't it.

    Jennifer,

    That is a very interesting machine. Although I've seen pics of both black ones and green ones I've never seen one in person.
    I'll show my wife the pic, but she's pretty adamant the machine she learned on was the old style.

    I have an extra knee bar too - I removed it from my 128 when I removed the electric parts to make it a hand crank. I didn't realize they were different ones. How do you know what style you have?
