Love the coral-orange of your OBW! Beautiful! I look forward to seeing the finished project also.

I haven't done a OBW, but I have done a Stack-n-Whack, which were popular in the late '90s, early 2000s. Your blocks are gorgeous and are perfect for a couple of the quilts in Bethany Reynold's Magic Stack-n-Whack Quilts pub. 1998. Like a couple of people said, you add triangles to the hexies and get a star effect. In fact the pattern is called Hexagon Star. She's got a couple of layouts including one with a border done with triangles of focus fabric and star fabric. I just checked Amazon and they have her book in stock for only $12.03. :-)

What about finishing them into half-hexies and using the method used for the Hexagon Park pattern? For that size, 1" wide strips would look fabulous, either in green or coral.

I have made several OBW's and love them. I think your fabric is great. Think about making the OBW from them. But, until then.....
Stack and whack are usually 8 sided blocks (octagons) that you can add triangles to the four corners to make a square. Your blocks are 6 sided (hexagons) that you can't really make into squares. You can make them into rectangles with 2 half triangles on either side. However, you can make them into diamonds by adding a triangle the same size as you used in the hexagons, but maybe a solid color from the print. Add the triangles to opposite sides of the hexagon, forming a diamond. They then can be sewn into strips, then into a quilt. Try it with paper as you did the OBW fabric. Attach triangles to opposite sides and lay out your blocks. Hope this is clearer than mud. ) Ann

I saw the beautiful pictures, but am unsure what OBW stands for. Thanks.

Here's a link to a Hexagon Star Stack and Whack right here on QB. I used this same pattern/layout. :-)
