Teal (aqua/cyan), Fuchsia (magenta), and yellow are the triadic colors used in the fabric printing industry, did you know? This color group is also familiar to us in the packaging of our printer's ink cartridges. Check out those images under Ives Color Wheel in Google Images and you'll see what I mean.

They are the basis of so many palettes in quilts. One of the best tools using this Ives color wheel for quilters is by Joen Wolfram, it looks like a fan of strips joined at one end, like paint chips. Get it on Amazon.

If your teal is deeper, then a more purple-y magenta would be appropriate --- these would be darker shades of the original colors of aqua (cyan) and magenta.

I guess I would try to find out if she likes pink. Some people love it, others do not. That would be the deciding factor for me

Lay the teal out with both colors. See which one you like best. I trust my eyes. I use the color my eyes keep going back to.

I would go with the fuschia. I just like my quilts to pop and I'm sure the girlfriend will be so impressed and happy with whatever you make for her.

A lot of young people are using gray with teal.

That's what I was was thinking! Personally I really dislike the color pink...in her shoes I'd be really touched that you made a quilt for me but I'd have a really hard time loving a quilt with a lot of bright pink in it.

I am in LOVE with the orange/teal combo right now though. I have a quilt in progress in those colors, and I used those a my 2 accent colors in my sewing room.

Pile up your fabrics, then get out the red celophane and see which look more harmonious and play well together?

Red cellophone "masks" colors from the red family

One of the most fun things about working with colors is how a given color can look so different when various colors are paired with it.
