Thanks everyone! I'm happy with the finished size, it's actually 56x66. I have 8 grandkids and the quilts I'm making for all of them ate right on the general ballpark of the ones you all make.

I make all of my throws 52x80. My husband was 6'6" tall and it fit him. I love making samplers and my recipe is this - 15 12" blocks - three across, five down, 2-1'2" sashing, 4'1/2" border - makes it 52x80 and that's it.

If you want a one pattern quilt, make 24 - 12" blocks - 4 across, six down, with a four inch border - makes it 56x80
I use Quilter's Cache for my blocks - they come in different sizes, so you can make the blocks larger or smaller (meaning more or less blocks. Good luck and have fun.....and Happy New Year!!! Edie

It certainly does depend on the height of the user. When I made one for my son-in-law, I made it 95 inches long because he is 7 ft tall. Needless to say, that throw took twice as long to sew and quilt. But it was a labor of love.

I usually make them for the person to lay on their side and curl up. I seldom lay on my back all stretched out.
Of course, I never lay down except in bed at night.

Yes these are good sizes. That's about what I do too.

As for the fleece backing, I have not tried that yet (I forget). Are there any tricks with it? And do you just bind as normal after quilting?

60 X 70 You're so close, it will be fine. Any bigger and it becomes cumbersome on the couch and in a recliner.
