Hi Delta,
would it be something like this? The log cabin block is made with strips on all four sides and then, holding your breath, you trim off one corner and add the HST. The HST does not need to be a stripe fabric.

I think this is what you saw https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#tr...2a1420da7ab9d4 it starts out with a half square triangle and you add strips to two sides then when you put it together it forms a cross.

Works for me but it's from Stichery Dickory Doc web site under the February Sugar Block Club free pattern. Actually you only make 1/2 of the log cabin block. You have to see it to understand I think.
