    You may need to brush up on your embroidery - the purple and yellow butterfly is missing one of the black circles.

    I think this is a great idea! If those blocks were mine this is what I would do. And I don't think you would have to worry about other stabilizing with this method. Once they are layered and quilted they should be fine.

    What a wonderful treasure you have. My first love is 30s fabrics and 1800s fabrics. I love the traditional looks. The butterflies are a classic. Good luck with this project.

    I also really like this idea. It makes a very striking quilt!! These butterflies are beautiful!

    I had not thought of the ecru backgrounds beeing feedsack too, but I think that explains the "crisp" feel better than a deteriorating muslin. This is a GOOD thing.

    My dad found 14 blocks that my grandma had hand embroidered. They were very old and musty. I soaked them in Biz and then washed them by hand. They came out beautifully. I think if you wash these blocks, then trim them to the same size. I would wash them before I used them because if they are to fragile to survive a washing, I would not put them in a quilt. My quilt is on the frame right now and I am hand quilting it. It will be beautiful when it is done.
