I think I read it safe for up to 3 minutes. Never have had a problem with the one my friend made for me. Another thing to make is a Mug Rug maybe in his sport's team color.

How about a boxy zippered pouch? He could it use is as a shave kit, or a travel bag for his toiletries. You could fill it with something fun.

How about a potato bag (though I don't know if the same concerns for the bowl potholder holds here too. There's also fabric boxes and caddies.

I also made him Christmas napkins, and a 10 min table runner, along with the coaster and potholders.
I have made microwave bowl holders for everyone, but I do not microwave the holder, just the bowl. Then slide the bowl in and you can hold it without discomfort. The Warm Co. cautions against heating their Warm 'n Natural product, plus if you use All Purpose thread there is some poly that will melt.

I have been making "Bendy Bags". They will hold all your cords for your devices. The pattern is from Lazy Girl Designs.

I've made all my special fellas boxers with novelty prints. The good thing is that I can re-use the boxer pattern over and over and it is always a quick gift for everything from Easter baskets to Christmas stockings!

So, with the microwave bowl holders, just add a fire extinguisher.

I've made a lot of those microwave bowl potholders & have some of my own that I've been using for about 3 years now. I've never had a problem with them & not heard of any that I've given as gifts. We use ours every single day for warming up food (be it soup, veggies, taco sauce, etc.) Be sure & use 100% cotton fabric, batting, & thread.
