Are you using a domestic machine or long/mid arm? I have never had a problem like you described on my domestic machines but did when using an inferior thread on my longarm. I am one of those people who cleans out the bobbin area every time I change the bobbin just in case. Anyway I eliminated the issue on my longarm by changing to Omni thread and a few others that have been named.

Aurifil is the only thread I use. Very little lint. It's also thin (but strong) so a bobbin of it lasts a lot longer than other threads. That's the best part for me - fewer bobbins to wind, more sewing time!

if you want a lot less lint use a poly like so fine or decobob. if you want to use cotton superior is the brand that creates the least lint IMHO but you really shouldn't have to clean every hour for lint. I have used different brands and never have to clean every hour for any thread

Are you talking about your domestic machine? On my LA, which uses an M bobbin, I do get lots of lint with cotton thread. And some bat is more linty. On my domestic machine I like to use either Mettler or Coats & Clark poly for this reason.

The thread I use the most is American and Efird D Core... a cotton wrap around a poly core. Tex 40 size. My favorite batting is Hobbs 80/20.

One hour of quilting is equal to about 2 bobbins. Yes, I'm a speed demon. I piece fast too. (My history is as a production seamstress).

My machine is the Juki TL2010Q. Love everything about it EXCEPT having to unscrew that needleplate to clean under the feed dogs. My old machine (that I still have) is the Bernina Record 830. A dream to clean, everything snaps out in seconds. The lint buildup would not affect tension in the Bernina, but it sure does in the Juki.

Thanks for all the info on thread. Gonna try switching threads and see if it helps.

Try a smaller needle. I work with fleece patches to make scrappy quilts. I use a decorative stitch which means the needle goes through many times. If I use a size 8 there is much less lint.

I had a piece of lint hang onto the thread as I was sewing with my Featherweight. It looked like felt. Then I noticed that my tension was really off. I turned the machine on its head and was surprised at the gunk that was under there that I really couldn't see when I just cleaned out the bobbin area. I needed to take off the needle plate. I hadn't been doing that. From now on, I'll be doing that a little oftener.

I find that some fabrics also produce a lot of lint.

I also was having problems with a lot of lint so I tried Aurifil. I love it. Not only is there less lint but it is thinner & I think it has helped me with a more accurate 1/4" seam. It is pricey for my budget so I have been slowly buying it when it is on sale & replacing my old brand.
