Watson, That is spectacular! I could see doing something in the background with lots of texture and that suggested an aerial view of a landscape-- like the patchwork patterns you see when flying over farm land.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Really lovely work. You didn't mention your experience or comfort level with machine quilting, but seemed open to any ideas, so here goes. You could consider some type of echo quilting around the colored portions, maybe even little circles or spirals to frame them.

Watson, check out some of the quilts on Jackie Kunkel and Judy Niemeyer websites/Pinterest/etc. They both do lots of those fun points (which you did a great job on--I'm turning green!) I like Rob's idea.

Thanks, all...I was planning to double batt it so the quilting stands out.

I've been staring at it for hours with your ideas in mind. This may be one that needs to percolate for some time before it come together.

Any further idea certainly appreciated, as well.

    Watson, is that paper pieced?

The quilt tells me to echo.

Susie...it is paper pieced, using Peggy Martin's Quick Strip Paper Piecing method on Craftsy. Very easy for someone who could never PP before. The class contains a whole section on making a NY Beauty, beginning to end. I followed her instructions, but used patterns off of the internet. One warning, if you use her pattern it won't match up with most NY Beauty blocks because it is smaller. That's what I used for the corners because it matched perfectly with her border.

I'm thinking a pattern that radiates from the circles. Could be straight lines or wavy depending on your preference. It would also allow for you to start with less dense quilting and then add more if you want it more heavily quilted. I hope that makes sense...

Love how the colors stand out against the black. Is this the quilt you posted about having issues with the pieced border? I really like how you only have it on the sides and circling the 4 corners. If this was mine, I would invest in some Invisifil thread to ditch all those spiky points in all the NYB as well as the FG and the border piecing. IMHO all that work needs to be emphasized. I would quilt "ghost" curved flying geese continuing the pieced ones and have them disappear behind the NYB circles and the other circle elements. I would mash down the rest of the backing with dense quilting, either an all over repetitive design like circles of varying sizes or break up the background into sections (except where I did the ghost FG) and do different tight fills. Depending how that looked when it was all done, it may also need additional quilting in the NYB units. I would match thread color to fabric, if I did any additional quilting in the NYB. Those applique circle units may need something in them as well.
To see an idea of what ghost FG look like with a lot of circles back fill take a look at this one I did last year:
Orange and blue Kaleidoscope circle quilt "Tropical Parrotise"

Edited to add, I suggested invisfil because I think it is easier to work with than monofiliment but monofiliment like Superior Monopoly or YLI would also do it. The idea is to have a fine almost invisible thread for the ditch work so as to not detract from any of the piecing and it is more forgiving when doing ditch work. King Tut is way to heavy for SITD, IMHO.
