    A " California king" is 72 x 86, and a regular one is nearly 80" square...figure a 15 " deep mattress & box spring , it should be 15 + 80+15= 120" wide.

    For son who is 6 foot 4 inches on his king sized mattress, minimum if 112 inches long and no less than 98 inches wide. That is the size that makes him smile.

    Another thing to consider is that if you wash the quilt it will shrink from 2 to 4 inches so you could lose the look you want to meet and cover the top of the dust ruffle. I know from experience so have to off center the quilt to the front side which shows and leave the back side a little short.

    I make my king size quilts 120 x 120 . I like the overhang and went you are laying under the quilt you have a lots of quilt to cover up with .King size quilts is all i make.

    I made the quilt for our king bed 118" square. It is barely big enough to cover my husband and I at night.

    I have an 80x80 on my full size bed and it doesn't completely cover the sides of the matress

    A king mattress is 76x78. I made my king 114x124; I like mine long on the sides.
