I cheated, with all my different whites, I turned them into the free table at Guild. I then proceeded to purchase two bolts of my favorite white fabrics. But I often use neutral batiks together without a problem, the more you add in the better the look.

Oooooh, I love the Converging Corners block. I may have to add that one to my list of scrappy quilts I want to make!

I think that using more than one shade of white/cream often adds more interest to your background areas. I agree that Cathy's quilt would not have been as stunning with only on white in the background.

I used different shades of whites to make a crazy quilt and used different shades of whitish thread to do decorative stitches on each piece. Loved how it turned out but don't have a picture to share.

I often use a variety of white on whites in any kind of scrap quilts I make. Try looking at some Irish chain patterns. I was very pleased with the queen size quilt I made doing this.

There is one among patterns from SewCanShe this week that might work with your varied whites. The pattern is Proof Positive Quilt. It is shown with multiple + signs which alternate white and scrappy but perhaps it might work to use your whites as the feature with a constant fabric being where they have the scrappies.

I mixed up whites in this quilt just to get rid of scraps. I thought it made it look antique (totally unintentional). The judges at the state fair gave it a first place ribbon.

This quilt I found the pattern on quilters cache called "Pineapple2" here is the URL for you, if you're interested....... http://www.quilterscache.com/P/Pineapple2Block.html - I added in the white 6.5 inch, between the 6.5 inch blocks, using red/white with a purple center. Paper pieced pattern, good to use up those white stash scraps.
