Thank you for the helpful thoughts.

My thoughts echo that I will keep the 1/4 inch seam and not strive for scant. Thanks!

Whatever size seam gets me a correct size unit is the one I use. When my seam is not scant, my units tend to be too small.

I try to re draw my pattern pieces to make a half inch seam. I have had too many come apart from usage with the 1/4 inch seam. I think most patterns include a 1/4 inch sea and I just add another 1/4 inch to that. I think that is personal preference not a law.

Same here. If I use a full 1/4" seam the finished unit is always a bit small.

I can get perfect hst points when I use a scant 1/4" seam.

Instead of the scant 1/4 I do all my piecing with Presencia 60wt thread from Red Rock Threads.

I'd say "whatever size seam you use on a project, use it consistently". I use a seam guide a good deal of the time as that helps me keep the stitching about the same. I'm not a perfectionist. The women who taught me used scissors to trim a piece to fit as they sewed. Of course that was back in the dark ages - long before rotary cutters. I learned by tracing patterns on a piece of fabric using a cut out piece of newspaper.
